Wellington, New Zealand

Massey – students, researchers, staff – giving back to the community and world that we exist in

Universities have the opportunity and responsibility to pursue areas that can empower people people’s lives and improve the planet. Sustainacool is a place to share knowledge to improve the wellbeing of us peoplings and this b-e-a-utiful planet that we inhabit.

Sustainability news. Not all sustainability news is cool, but we must know where the issues are in order to address them. The first step toward fixing a problem is admitting that we have a problem.

We aspire toward a more sustainable and just society for all.

-      News stories about climate change’s effects on the planet. They are housed in the ‘uncool’ category.
-       It can all be a bit overwhelming sometimes so we also want ways to implement good things into our everyday behaviour to combat this bad news

What do you want first?
The good news or The bad news

We're living in the ‘era of sustainability’ - let's get onto this whole climate change debacle and reduce some greenhouse gas emissions! There's no shortage of initiatives designed to encourage better environmental choices and sustainable lifestyle decisions, yet leading a sustainable life is not a mainstream concept.

Internal factors: i.e., values, knowledge, experience, feelings, personality traits

External factors: i.e., social norms, infrastructure, cost

Experiences of those who choose to lead extremely sustainable lives: i.e., motivations, viewpoints and experiences

Experiences of other new Zealanders living sustainacool lives? Connections, events, networks, support, role models

Sometimes we feel like we're all alone on this mission to save the planet. But never fear, friends are near.

In the past, sustainability hasn’t been very cool. But we’re aspirational and think that the time has come for sustainability to blossom into a beautiful flower. Sustainacool FlorianusThe world is fucked unless we start to live fundamentally more sustainable lifestyles, putting factors such as social equity, public health and wellness, and ecological stability before ease and habit.

green values have a weaker infl uence on the decision making process when actually purchasing a product
• brand strength,• culture,• demographic characteristics,• fi nance,• habit,• lack of information,• lifestyles,• personalities or•  trading off between different ethical factors.

consumers use neutralization techniques to justify pursuing their more selfish goals

this may also be due to the relative cognitive effort required in buying a product based on values

context is important, including demographic, social, political, economic and psychological factors as well as temporal and ideological structuring of domestic practices
